ESTABLISHING INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS
Whenever I create lesson plans, I do my best to incorporate universal and targeted strategies and supports to address students' strengths, learning challenges and areas for growth. I do this by considering how I will differentiate to accommodate all learners. During Field III, I was responsible for leading my class through their end of unit, planet project. I scaffolded the project to challenge students, while also supporting them to ensure their success. I accomplished this by strategically placing students in specific groups based on previous formative assessments, student relationships, and other unique considerations, such as being an English Language Learner or having an IPP. By doing this, I recognized and responded to individuals' specific learning needs. Furthermore, I implemented classroom management strategies that promoted an engaging learning environment. One strategy was rewarding the students with 5 minutes of “technology time” if they stayed on-task. Another accommodation that I provided was providing accessible digital resources that could be accessed from a home learning environment. These digital resources included research websites and a rubric written in “I can…” statements.
